Purpose and Scope of the Job

The Political and Policy Affairs Officer is responsible for conducting domestic and international political analysis, providing insights into environmental governance and diplomacy, engaging with key stakeholders in governmental and non-governmental organizations, supporting the designing of political strategy to advance Greenpeace campaign and organizational goals. Working closely with the campaign teams, the Political and Policy Affairs Officer will support the effective integration of political and policy advice into campaigns and organizational development.

Job responsibilities

  • Conduct regular domestic and international political analysis.
  • Provide expertise with respect to geopolitical and domestic political context regarding environmental issues to support Greenpeace campaigns and organizational goals.
  • Track global environmental negotiations and diplomatic engagements.
  • Organize activities, conferences and other events to facilitate Track II exchanges between Chinese and international experts and organizations.
  • Actively engage in building effective relationships with partners and stakeholders to achieve the work’s objective. Support the maintenance of extensive contacts.
  • Support the team’s response to public speaking requests and media inquiries. Prepare presentations and other relevant materials for public communications.
  • Lead and support the development of plans and strategies for new thematic priorities as needed.
  • Be able to operate in fast changing circumstances with ability to quickly and effectively adjust plans to best deliver objectives.
  • Other duties may arise as the work progresses.

Skills and Expertise required

  • Bachelor degree or above in the subjects of International Politics, International Development Studies, International Relations, International Public Policy, etc.
  • Work experience in the field of policy analysis with a savvy understanding of domestic politics and deep understanding of global environmental governance and the relevant geopolitical and economic context.
  • Proficient level in English skills.

Specific Work Environment

Works in a standard office environment, and is required to travel to other Greenpeace offices, campaign locations or locations where environmental problems require the presence of Greenpeace representatives.
